The main prose work in this issue is a new novel by Petersburg writer Alexande Melikhov, “Expulsion from Eden” (Confessions of a Jew)”, a poignant, sometimes shocking, book dealing with the “national problem” in its various aspects and manifestations.
The short story genre is presented by Fasil Iskander’s “The Swallow’s Nest” and Mikhail Butov’s “Lime”.

In “Book Review” V. Morov gives an account of a new book by Renata Galtseva about Utopian conscionsness and R. Trofimov writes about a new edition of A. Suvorin’s diaries.
In “Briefly About Books” there are three reviews by Sergei Kostyrko about the novelties of the modern Russian prose and also reviews by other authors.
The monthly section “Russian Book Abroad” is introduced by Alexander Nosov.
